Overview

Civil Engineering is the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines. A Civil Engineer works with a wide spectrum of individuals in both the public and private sectors to meet today's challenges of pollution, infrastructure rehabilitation, traffic congestion, floods, earthquakes, and urban development. Civil Engineers plan, design, construct, maintain, manage, and operate facilities essential to modern, civilized human life. Projects requiring Civil Engineering expertise vary widely in nature, size, and scope, such as: bridges, tunnels, transportation systems, airports, storm water drainage systems, dams, buildings, foundations, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, hazardous waste treatment, environmental remediation, environmental protection, and air pollution control.

Civil Engineering graduates are prepared for advanced graduate degrees and a wide range of career paths in Civil Engineering including consulting, governmental agencies, and industry. In addition to the traditional careers in Civil Engineering, graduates may take advantage of their strong, broad-based engineering education to pursue careers in professions such as medicine, law, business, or teaching.

Objectives

  • To prepare a students to be practicing Civil Engineers.
  • To prepare a students to be effective communicators.
  • To make a students good team players and leaders.
  • To be effective researchers who can gather and synthesize information and data as needed to accomplish tasks.
  • To be engineering professionals who are licensed, seek continuing education, participate in professional societies, and perform public service.
  • To be good engineering citizens who are ethical and aware of the social, economic, and environmental impact of engineering solutions.

Infrastructure

The department's space is designed for flexibility and to allow easy further infrastructure expansion. There is ample space for laboratories and classrooms to support teaching and group interactions.

Laboratory experiments are used throughout the courses to consolidate and illustrate the material taught in lectures. There is a large laboratory devoted entirely to undergraduate experiments.

The department of civil engineering has well equipped laboratories like material technology, surveying, soil, transportation engineering, concrete technology, water supply and sanitation.

The departments has also a models rooms for building construction, irrigation, engineering, and transportation lab for batter understanding to students.

Activity

We have arranged seminar on “Production and Application of White Cement” for our civil engineering students which is conducted by Birla White Cement.

We have also arranged field visit of Sardar Sarovar Dam, Dharoi Dam, and Aadi Cement Factory for batter understanding of subjects topic.

We have also arranged counter survey project at Taranga and Ambaji for better understanding of surveying.

We have also arranged Shantigram Adani Township for better understanding practical of concrete technology and material technology and also understanding of building structure and there different component and understanding steel structure of building.

Future

Civil Engineering is one of the most traditional engineering studies in India. British started very good schools for Civil Engineering studies and successfully completed some of the best public projects like Ganga canal and India’s Railway network to name few.

In the first year of study students will learn about the basic engineering techniques along with mathematics and engineering design. From second year students will be more focused towards core subject studies. Few of the subjects taught in these four years are fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, design of structures, and structural mechanics and water recourse engineering. Students are also partly exposed to subjects like Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Gngineering, Water Resources Engineering, Remote Sensing, Transportation Systems Engineering. etc.

A bachelor degree in Civil Engineering will give good opportunities in industry as India is moving fast forward for infrastructure development and one the same time leave a good space for higher studies at home and abroad like MS in Civil Engineering. Almost all top Universities offer MS in Civil Engineering and there are good opportunities PhD and research too.
