Overview

Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field first became an identifiable occupation in the late nineteenth century after commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply. It now covers a range of subtopics including power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications. There are equally good opportunities for jobs in electrical engineering industry and higher education. There is lot of multidisciplinary research for developing electric vehicles with great funding and scope all over there world. On the same time good opportunities back home in industry.

Electrical Engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment. Some of this equipment includes electric motors; machinery controls, lighting, and wiring in buildings; radar and navigation systems; communications systems; and power generation, control, and transmission devices used by electric utilities. Electrical engineers also design the electrical systems of automobiles and aircraft. Although the terms electrical and electronics engineering often are used interchangeably in academia and industry, electrical engineers traditionally have focused on the generation and supply of power, whereas electronics engineers have worked on applications of electricity to control systems or signal processing. Electrical engineers specialize in areas such as power systems engineering or electrical equipment manufacturing.

Objectives

Electrical engineering is the application of the laws of physics governing electricity, magnetism, and light to develop products and services for the benefit of humankind. It is a professional discipline that deals with the application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. This branch offers exciting job opportunities for students in the rapidly evolving fields of information and communication technology and the latest advances in the more traditional areas of power, control, and electromagnetism. So electrical engineering deals with the problems associated with large-scale electrical systems such as power transmission and motor control.

Our goals are that undergraduates from the Electrical Engineering program will:

  • Successfully practice electrical engineering to serve state and regional industries, government agencies, or national and international industries as technicians. Also to join in further studies in graduate and post graduate programs with sound basics of the branch.
  • Work professionally in one or more of the following areas: analog electronics, digital electronics, communication systems, signal processing, control systems, and computer-based systems.
  • Achieve personal and professional success with awareness and commitment to their ethical and social responsibilities, both as individuals and in team environments.

Maintain and improve their technical competence through lifelong learning, including entering and succeeding in an advanced degree program in a field such as engineering, science, or business.

Infrastructure

  • The Department is fully furnished to support the teaching in Classroom and Laboratories.
  • Laboratory Experiment conducts on the well developed Practical Sets.
  • Laboratories of core subjects like Machine, Electrical Instrumentation, D.C. Circuit & Generation/Transmission of Electrical Power are developed separately as per the requirements of the GTU/AICTE.
  • A separate Laboratory is allotted to the students for the Project models developed by the students (working/non working), to enhance the practical knowledge of the final year students.
  • Seminar hall with a capacity of 200 persons is developed with audio/video aids.
  • Personal Computers with high speed internet connection (2 Mbps) are provided to the faculty members.
  • Separate cabin space with the required furniture for each faculty.

Activity

We have arranged different industrial visits regarding practical exposure of various subjects (Semester wise). Topics regarding Generation, Distribution & different types of protection devices are covered in visit of Sardar Sarovar Hydro Power Plant, GMDC (Thermal Power Plant), 66 KV substation (at Basna) & Vimal transformers at Mehsana.

We have arranged seminar on Carrier Guidance (What to do after Diploma ???) for student, which is conducted by Prof. V. G. Patel (M. E. in Electrical Engg.) who have more than 35 years of experience in industries and he is also associated with different Educational Institutes.

Future

Engineering is one field that offers the students with an extensive range of possibilities and opportunities that will not only make their life easier but successful too. This branch keeps on altering and widening with innovations in knowledge and time. The Electrical department of engineering is one sector that is rapidly increasing with the growing demands for enhanced telecommunication equipments, processors and machinery, further leading to the generation of numerous job opportunities in this branch. People with creative mind and ready with expert knowledge are highly appropriate for these work opportunities.
